A shocking turn for a college star
Lagerald Vick, who helped the Kansas Jayhawks reach the 2018 Final Four, is now at the center of a high‑profile criminal case in Memphis. During his college career he averaged 14.1 points, four rebounds and 1.9 assists per game over 23 appearances, starting 20 of them, before going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft and later playing professionally in Taiwan, Mexico and elsewhere.
According to police, the former college standout was arrested on July 11 after a July 4 shooting that left a man with a gunshot wound to the back. Investigators say the incident began as a verbal confrontation that escalated into gunfire, and the victim later identified Vick from a photo lineup.
Vick remains jailed with bail set at $1.5 million, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 13, followed by a bail‑review hearing on July 14. Prosecutors have charged him with attempted first‑degree murder and with using a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The case also includes separate allegations from a different incident involving his former girlfriend. Authorities say Vick broke into her home, stole property and caused damage, leading to two felony counts and a misdemeanor. A court date for that matter is set for July 30.
A Title IX investigation from his university years has also resurfaced in public records, adding another layer to the scrutiny surrounding the former Jayhawk.
