A former University of Kansas basketball player, Lagerald Vick, has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after a shooting that erupted during a Fourth of July gathering in Memphis, Tennessee.
A dispute that turned violent
According to investigators, Vick got into an argument with another guest at the party, and the confrontation escalated when he produced a handgun and fired a shot that struck the victim in the leg. Witnesses said the altercation began over a personal dispute and quickly spiraled out of control.
The victim managed to identify Vick in a police lineup just days after the incident, confirming his involvement and prompting authorities to secure an arrest warrant.
Vick is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond, with prosecutors citing the seriousness of the alleged crime and the potential flight risk as reasons for the high bail amount.
From college standout to overseas journeyman
Vick played for the University of Kansas from 2015 to 2019, earning a reputation as a tenacious guard before turning professional. After brief stints abroad, he signed with the Southland Sharks in New Zealand, where he remained until his release in April 2024.
