A former University of Kansas basketball standout, Lagerald Vick, now sits behind bars after being charged with attempted first‑degree murder.
The alleged attack unfolded on the night of July 4, when investigators say Vick got into an argument at a Fourth of July gathering in Memphis, Tennessee, and fired a single shot that struck a man in the lower back.
According to prosecutors, the victim was able to pick Vick out of a police lineup a few days after the incident, sealing the case.
From College Star to Professional Player
Vick played for the University of Kansas from 2015 to 2019, helping the Jayhawks reach the NCAA tournament on multiple occasions.
After college he pursued a professional career that took him to leagues abroad, most notably the Southland Sharks in New Zealand, before he was released earlier this year.
The Alleged Shooting
Witnesses at the party described a heated dispute that escalated quickly, leading Vick to pull a firearm and discharge a single round.
The bullet grazed the victim’s lower back, causing injury but not a fatal wound, and the suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
