A former University of Kansas basketball standout, Lagerald Vick, was taken into custody on Tuesday and formally charged with attempted first‑degree murder after investigators say he opened fire on a man during a Fourth of July gathering in Memphis.
According to police reports, the confrontation began as a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical struggle, at which point Vick produced a handgun and discharged it, striking the victim in the chest. The injured man managed to flee the scene but was later hospitalized in critical condition.

Vick’s basketball résumé stretches from his collegiate years with the Jayhawks between 2015 and 2019 to professional stints overseas, most recently with the Southland Sharks in New Zealand, where he was released in April 2024 after a brief tenure.
