Cason’s decision follows a February ACL tear that will sideline him for the entirety of the 2026‑27 season. While the injury robs the team of his services next year, the guard’s reputation as a clutch performer and his experience on a national‑title roster remain highly valued by Miami’s coaching staff.
The move also coincides with a shake‑up on the Michigan bench. Dusty May, who guided Michigan to the championship, left the program to become head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, creating a vacancy that Miami has eagerly filled through the transfer portal.
