The Carson City Chamber of Commerce is set to host a lively community gathering at Governor's Field on May 13, inviting baseball enthusiasts of all ages to celebrate the city's rich sports heritage.
Four former major league players — Bob Ayrault, Charlie Kerfeld, Darrell Rasner and Matt Williams — will be on hand to sign autographs, share stories from their careers, and answer questions from fans eager to hear about their time on the diamond.
A Day of Baseball and Community
The event is entirely free and organized in partnership with local groups including Kiwanis of Carson City, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Chamber’s Leadership Class of 2026, which will use the occasion to unveil upgrades to the concession‑stand area.
Kids between the ages of 4 and 16 will receive a limited‑edition souvenir baseball cap, while the first 100 attendees can enjoy complimentary Flocchini hot dogs served by the Kiwanis club and the sheriff’s office.
Adding a cultural twist, two new murals created by Reno artist Erik Burke will be showcased, turning the gathering space into a vibrant backdrop for photos and conversation.
After the ceremonial ribbon‑cutting, the players and their longtime coach Ron McNutt will lead an informal Q&A session, giving fans a rare chance to engage directly with the legends of the game.
Beyond the autograph tables and food stalls, the event underscores Carson City’s commitment to fostering community spirit through sports, art, and youth outreach, all without any cost to participants.
