A man from Pennsylvania has been charged after investigators say he transformed a former NASCAR race truck into a vehicle he claimed was street‑legal, then sold it on an online marketplace.
According to court filings, the suspect affixed a counterfeit Vehicle Identification Number plate taken from another automobile, used the forged plate to obtain a street‑title, and listed the truck on eBay as a Chevrolet S‑10 conversion. The listing promised a fully road‑worthy vehicle and attracted a buyer who paid $10,000.
The Investigation Unfolds
The truck had previously competed in the 2023 NASCAR Bristol Motor Speedway dirt event, driven by veteran racer Norm Benning. At the track the vehicle was distinguished only by functional headlights and taillights; otherwise it retained its racing livery.
Authorities say the sale was part of a scheme that also involved forgery and deceptive business practices, leading to multiple criminal counts including dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities and forgery.
