Legal Turmoil Off the Court
Federal prosecutors have charged former NBA swingman Terry Rozier with bribery in sports, honest‑services wire fraud and a money‑laundering conspiracy, alleging that he deliberately underperformed during a game to benefit sports bettors.
The court imposed a $3 million bond backed by his South Florida residence and barred him from contacting twelve individuals, among them seven former Charlotte Hornets teammates, while also prohibiting travel to Canada, a restriction that would have prevented him from facing the Toronto Raptors.
During a recent hearing, the judge rejected a request from Rozier’s new attorney, David Markus, to loosen those conditions, noting that Rozier had already been caught reaching out to a player on the no‑contact list, a breach that underscored the seriousness of the court’s concerns.
Markus, who has taken over the defense, expressed confidence that the case will be fought vigorously and that the allegations will be disproven.
