Michael Carter‑Williams, celebrated for his breakout season in 2014 and the NBA Rookie of the Year award, has announced a career pivot that takes him from playing professional basketball to shaping the off‑court futures of today’s athletes.
A new chapter in athlete representation
He will join Brunswick Sports Management in Boston, where he will head the agency’s basketball practice and work side‑by‑side with founder Julian Aitken, a partnership that promises to broaden the firm’s NIL‑focused services for players across the NBA, NFL and college ranks.
Based in Fairfield, Connecticut, Carter‑Williams will help athletes secure name‑image‑likeness deals, craft long‑term career plans and develop habits that translate into sustained success beyond the hardwood.
Expanding NIL horizons
Brunswick, which employs eight staff members and manages 38 clients ranging from high‑school prospects to established NFL and NBA players, recently added Rams cornerback Josh Wallace, Eagles wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks and Cowboys linebacker Marist Liufau to its roster.
The agency’s strategy centers on amplifying NIL opportunities while continuing to provide media and marketing support for athletes in the NBA and NFL, a dual focus that reflects the evolving landscape of athlete compensation.
Mentorship and legacy
Carter‑Williams, who previously founded the NIL agency SOL Sports Group before joining Brunswick without any clients, intends to mentor young talent, guiding them through contract negotiations, brand partnerships and the broader business side of sports.
Aitken has articulated a clear vision: to empower athletes to transition smoothly into post‑retirement phases, ensuring that the earnings and relationships built during their playing days continue to serve them throughout their lives.
