Stromile Swift, a ten‑year NBA veteran and 2000 SEC Co‑Player of the Year, has set up a basketball camp in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, where he is teaching the fundamentals of the game to a new generation of youngsters.
The initiative is made possible through the partnership of Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation, which is providing the facilities, staffing and logistical support needed to run the camp safely and efficiently.
A Camp Built on More Than Basketball
Beyond dribbling drills and shooting contests, Swift emphasizes the importance of character development, weaving in lessons about discipline, teamwork and spiritual growth that he says have shaped his own journey.
Hollyhood Bay Bay, a lifelong Shreveport resident and ardent fan of Swift, is on hand to cheer on the participants, offering mentorship and sharing personal stories that resonate with the campers.
Swift, who spent a decade navigating the competitive landscape of professional basketball, says the most rewarding part of the camp is watching the kids' competitive spirit ignite and seeing the genuine smiles that follow each successful play.
The program aims to give back to the community that helped raise him, using sport as a vehicle to pass on values that extend far beyond the hardwood.
