Former Penn State standout Miles Sanders was taken into custody early on June 8 after police responded to a call on the William Penn Highway in Churchill Borough, just outside Pittsburgh.
A traffic stop that turned into a DUI investigation
Officers reported Sanders slumped behind the wheel, describing him as extremely lethargic and barely responsive. He admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier that day and subsequently failed three standardized field sobriety exercises.
A portable breath test administered at the scene registered a blood‑alcohol concentration above the legal limit, prompting his arrest on charges of driving under the influence and careless driving.
During the search of his vehicle, officers uncovered a small bag containing suspected marijuana, adding a separate possession count to the allegations.
From college standout to NFL free agent
Sanders played for Penn State from 2016 through 2018, where he emerged as one of the program’s most dynamic running backs. After going undrafted, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, appearing in four games before a series of injuries landed him on the injured reserve list.
Now listed as a free agent, Sanders is slated to appear before a preliminary hearing on September 23. The proceedings will determine whether the case proceeds to trial and what, if any, penalties he may face as he looks ahead to the 2026 NFL season.
