Former Portneuf Valley Soccer Club president Cristie Stone has been charged with felony grand theft after a months‑long investigation uncovered more than $219,000 in questionable financial movements.
The allegations trace back to a finance administrator’s notice on February 25, 2025, when irregularities first surfaced at Idaho Central Credit Union, prompting a deeper audit of the club’s accounts.
Forensic accountants later identified 16 suspect transactions between January 2023 and April 2024, and additional irregularities totaling $219,884.38 in the club’s Citizens Community Bank account.
Stone has offered varying explanations, including a claim that her personal credit card was mistakenly linked to the club’s account, a detail that has done little to quell the board’s concerns.
Board response and forensic findings
The club’s Board of Directors publicly disclosed the investigation on June 17, 2025, and commissioned an independent review to examine every ledger entry.
The independent forensic accounting firm’s report confirmed the irregularities and recommended further legal action, though it stopped short of assigning blame beyond the financial patterns observed.
Upcoming legal proceedings
Stone’s formal arraignment is scheduled for July 7, 2026, in the Bannock County Courthouse, where prosecutors plan to present the evidence before a judge.
If convicted, she could face up to 14 years in prison and a fine of as much as $5,000, underscoring the seriousness of the alleged misconduct.
The case has sparked a broader conversation about financial oversight within local sports organizations, with officials promising reforms to prevent similar breaches in the future.
