A 30‑year‑old former soccer coach, Roberto Garcia, was taken into custody in Baltimore County earlier this month following a lengthy investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of sexual abuse targeting young players.
The probe, launched in January 2026, grew out of multiple reports that Garcia had engaged in inappropriate conduct during tournaments held in several states. Authorities say the alleged misconduct spans from March 2025 in Florida to September 2025 in Maryland, with victims ranging in age from ten to fifteen.
In Florida, a victim reported that Garcia touched her inappropriately during a tournament, creating an environment that made the child feel uncomfortable. Later, in September 2025, another teenager alleged that Garcia offered $500 for sexual contact after she repeatedly refused his advances.
A Cross‑Country Pattern of Abuse
The abuse did not stop in the Mid‑Atlantic region. During a Seattle tournament, a different victim claimed Garcia instructed her to pull down her pants in exchange for money, a demand she rejected multiple times before the incident was reported to organizers.
Garcia’s coaching history includes stints with several private soccer organizations in Maryland. Following the emergence of the allegations, he was promptly suspended from all coaching activities pending further legal proceedings.
The case has sparked renewed calls for stricter safeguarding measures within youth sports, with officials emphasizing the need for transparent reporting channels and rigorous background checks for all volunteers and coaches.
