Jacksonville University announced the hiring of former Spanish international Natxo Faus as an assistant coach for its men’s soccer program, with a specific mandate to develop the goalkeepers.
Faus arrives after a distinguished playing career that included stints in La Liga with Valencia CF, where he contributed to a league‑championship side, and a productive spell at CD Alcoyano that earned him Player‑of‑the‑Month honors.
A Strategic Addition for the Program
His coaching journey began at Emmanuel University in Georgia, where he served as goalkeeper coach and helped Bryan Amezcua post a .824 save percentage and a 0.99 goals‑against average, numbers that ranked among the nation’s best.
A native of Cocentaina, Spain, Faus also spent time at Texas A&M International University before returning to the U.S. collegiate ranks, bringing a blend of European tactical insight and domestic experience.
He now steps into the role vacated by Michael Garrihy, who moved to Grand Canyon University, and will work directly with the program’s keepers as they aim to sharpen their performance ahead of the upcoming season.
Program director Ali Simmons expressed confidence that Faus’s international pedigree and proven development record will elevate the team’s defensive foundation, noting that the university’s recent investments in facilities and recruitment make this an exciting moment for the program.
