The National Football Foundation announced its 2027 College Football Hall of Fame candidate list on June 1, revealing a competitive field of 227 individuals who will contend for a spot in the prestigious hall.
Tennessee’s Legacy Lives On
Two former Volunteers standouts, Willie Gault and Deon Grant, appear on the ballot, each bringing a distinguished résumé that reflects the program’s rich history.
Gault, a 1982 first‑team All‑America, rewrote the SEC record books as a punt and kick returner, scoring three touchdowns in a single season and helping the Vols reach three bowl games.
Grant, a consensus first‑team All‑American, earned the 1999 AP SEC Defensive Player of the Year award, led the conference with nine interceptions, and was a cornerstone of Tennessee’s 1998 national championship team.
More than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers will cast ballots, with the final class scheduled to be announced in early 2027, adding to a legacy that already includes 27 Tennessee inductees.
The upcoming vote not only celebrates individual excellence but also reinforces the lasting influence of Tennessee football on the national stage.
