Former WVSU Star Fomby Joins McGrady’s One’s Basketball League

The alum will represent Baltimore in the upcoming Orlando showcase, crediting his coach and collegiate roots.

Robert Fomby, a standout graduate of West Virginia State University, is preparing to step onto the court in a new arena. The former Mountain East Conference standout will wear the colors of Team Baltimore in Tracy McGrady's One's Basketball League (OBL), a city‑based competition that brings together three‑man squads from across the country.

A League Built on City Pride

The OBL, launched in 2022, condenses high‑octane basketball into a fast‑paced format where each city’s identity, swagger and community pride are on display. From May 15 through June 30, the league’s inaugural event will unfold in Orlando, Florida, gathering teams that each embody the spirit of their home municipalities.

For Fomby, the opportunity is more than a chance to showcase his game; it is a personal milestone. He has spoken openly about the honor of representing Baltimore and the excitement of playing under the tutelage of Coach Bryan Poore, whose guidance he credits for much of his development.

Reflecting on his collegiate career, Fomby noted his averages of 13.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, achievements that earned him Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors in 2018. Those statistics, he says, are a testament to the work ethic instilled by his coach and the supportive environment at West Virginia State.

Coach Poore, proud of his player’s progression, emphasized that Fomby’s journey from campus courts to a national showcase illustrates the power of mentorship and perseverance. The league’s format, he added, will allow fans to experience the raw passion and identity that each city brings to the game.

As the Orlando event draws near, anticipation builds among basketball enthusiasts eager to see how Fomby and his teammates will translate their city’s pride into performance. The OBL promises a fresh, dynamic brand of basketball that could redefine how city‑based competitions are perceived.
