Coach Lorenzano’s Vision for 2026
The Fort Dorchester Patriots are entering the 2026 season with a sense of optimism that belies their 5‑7 record a year ago. Coach Shaun Lorenzano has highlighted the team’s high morale, talent, and the strides made in the weight room, painting a picture of a program that is poised for improvement.
Key players are already drawing attention. Laurez Matthews, a 6‑2 wide receiver/defensive back, holds offers from Wake Forest University and Liberty University, while rising sophomore Aiden Rutledge is slated to contribute at multiple positions after a strong freshman year.
The roster also includes rising juniors Devin Gates and Derrick Simpson, who played slot receiver last season, and sophomore Ousmane Dirra, a 6‑6, 300‑pound prospect working at offensive guard and tackle.
At quarterback, the battle is between junior Mesiah Rivers and freshman Landon Freeman, and the offensive line will be anchored by the only returning starter, Malachi Nelson.
Defensively, Amari Dawson, Kasamania Milo and Kameron Geathers return as starters, and sophomore Robert Floyd is showing promise at both outside linebacker and tight end.
The Patriots will test their progress at a 7‑on‑7 camp hosted by The Citadel on July 8, and they have performed well at passing camps at Charleston Southern University and the University of South Carolina.
