Fort Fairfield’s baseball squad captured the Class D state championship on Saturday, edging Telstar 4-1 in a tightly contested final at the Standish baseball complex.
The win not only delivered the Tigers’ third overall title but also marked the first state championship for Aroostook County since Southern Aroostook’s triumph in 1999, a milestone that has sparked celebration across the region.
Coach John Ala praised the team’s preparation and execution, highlighting the scouting work that allowed the players to exploit Telstar’s tendencies.
The game’s turning point came in the third inning when Fort Fairfield plated three runs, sparked by a timely hit from Levi Cole and a two‑run single from Graedon King‑Rosado.
Cayden Ala contributed a double, a single and a stolen base, while Levi Cole added two hits to the offense.
On the mound, Jonah LeBlanc delivered 6 ⅓ innings of solid work, striking out six batters and limiting Telstar to a single earned run.
Reliever Bryson Walker, who had struck out the side in both the first and second innings, finished the game with eight strikeouts, though he surrendered three earned runs in the later frames.
Defensively, the Tigers turned a double play in the fifth inning and executed a strong throw from right field in the sixth that helped preserve the lead.
The victory was celebrated not only by the players but also by the broader community, with local officials and alumni gathering to honor the team’s achievement.
