The '09 Fort Wayne Sports Club Dresden girls soccer team is bound for the U.S. Youth Soccer Association’s National Championship in Tennessee, carrying the hopes of a community that has watched them rise through the ranks.
A Season of Dominance
During the recent campaign the squad logged 17 victories, three defeats and four draws, a record that reflects both skill and consistency. Their triumphs included a decisive win at the USYS qualifier event held in Arizona in January, as well as securing their third state cup in just four years.
Coach Ken Nuber has been a constant presence, shaping a group whose resilience and chemistry set them apart. Under his guidance the players have cultivated a bond that translates into confidence on the field and a belief that they can bring the trophy back to Fort Wayne.
Championship Schedule
The tournament will kick off on Monday, July 13, with the final slated for July 20. Matches are expected to take place in Murfreesboro and nearby Smyrna, both cities in Tennessee, while the team’s earlier qualifier was staged in Arizona.
Beyond the competition, the players see the event as an opportunity to showcase the talent emerging from eight different high schools across Fort Wayne, and to inspire younger athletes who look up to their journey.
