Cyrus Salehi, the longtime coach of Fossil Ridge High School’s girls soccer program, announced his resignation earlier this week, citing the need to relocate to North Carolina to be closer to his family after the recent loss of his mother and other relatives. His departure marks an unplanned shift for a program that has become a powerhouse in Colorado high school soccer.
A Legacy of Success
Under Salehi’s guidance, the girls team posted a 46‑4‑7 record and outscored opponents 186‑35 en route to back‑to‑back Class 5A state championships. The program’s rise was built on a championship culture that Athletic Director Dave Walck praised for keeping the school informed throughout the transition.
A New Era for the Boys Program
Matt Anderson, a Fort Collins native and former Rocky Mountain coach, will assume the role of head coach for the boys soccer team beginning in the 2026‑27 season. Anderson brings extensive experience, including stints at Adams State and a recent unbeaten league record that helped the Rocky boys earn a 5A playoff berth last season.
Anderson’s hiring is expected to bring continuity to a boys program that had shown promise but struggled with inconsistency before Salehi’s tenure. The coaching staff, including Lauren Roeling, Greg Hofinger, and Eric Yeh, will remain in place, ensuring a seamless handover of knowledge and strategy.
Looking Ahead
While the girls program will miss Salehi’s leadership, its recent dominance sets a high bar for future squads. In Huntersville, North Carolina, Salehi’s family plans to settle, but his impact on Colorado soccer will linger through the players and staff he mentored. The coming season offers Anderson a chance to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and guide the boys toward their own championship aspirations.
