Tae Walden Jr., a four-star athlete from Collierville, announced his commitment to the University of Oregon on Wednesday, selecting the Ducks over a field that included Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss.
A Multi-Dimensional Playmaker
Ranked as the nation’s No. 6 athlete in the Class of 2027 and No. 70 overall by the 247Sports Composite, Walden combines size, speed and playmaking ability in a package that excites Oregon’s coaching staff.
During his junior season he posted 42 receptions for 912 yards and 10 touchdowns, while on defense he broke up 17 passes and intercepted five balls. He also added 447 return yards and four scores on special teams.
High School Triumphs
Coach Joe Rocconi described the 6‑foot‑3, 210‑pound prospect as a "triple threat," highlighting his length, athleticism and knack for influencing games on both sides of the ball. Rocconi’s praise aligns with Walden’s role in Collierville’s 9‑4 season, which featured a region championship and a run to the TSSAA Class 6A state quarterfinals.
The commitment marks the 14th verbal pledge from Memphis-area athletes in the 2027 class, underscoring Walden’s status as one of the most coveted talents in the region. He will report to Eugene in time for the Ducks’ season opener against East Nashville on August 22, where he hopes to translate his high‑school versatility into immediate collegiate impact.
