A Louisiana cornerback's pledge reshapes LSU's future
Markez Davis, a 6‑foot‑3, 178‑pound cornerback from Opelousas, Louisiana, has risen to national prominence after being upgraded to a four‑star rating by 247Sports. The upgrade reflects his performance at Northwest High School, where he has attracted attention from several Power Five programs.
On June 8, Davis announced his commitment to LSU's 2027 recruiting class, choosing the Tigers over offers from Houston, Texas Tech and West Virginia. His decision was highlighted in a public pledge that underscored his desire to stay close to home while testing himself at the SEC level.
The commitment adds to a class that currently sits at No. 24 in the national rankings and No. 9 within the SEC, according to Rivals' Industry Rankings. Four of the eight pledges hail from Louisiana, illustrating a growing pipeline of talent that the coaching staff, led by head coach Lane Kiffin, has been actively cultivating.
Kiffin and his assistants have been leveraging visits to bring top prospects to campus, and the class is expected to expand further before fall camp begins. The momentum suggests that LSU's recruiting strategy is paying dividends, positioning the program for a strong future.
