A Late Surge in the Recruiting Race
Sam LeJeune, a four-star defensive tackle from Poplarville High School in Mississippi, has emerged as one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 class. Ranked No. 119 overall and the 11th best defensive lineman by the 247Sports Composite, his combination of strength, explosiveness and versatility has drawn attention from programs nationwide.
His official visits included stops at Auburn, California, Washington and Florida State, where he spent the most time with the Seminoles staff. The visit to Tallahassee was particularly pivotal, as Florida State’s coach Mike Norvell emphasized how LeJeune could fit into the program’s defensive scheme.
Washington’s Late Offer
Mid‑May brought a scholarship offer from Washington’s defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi, adding a new layer of intrigue to the recruitment. While the Huskies already have four defensive line commits for the 2027 class, the late push from Washington kept the competition alive heading into the final weeks.
Rivals analyst Chad Simmons had long predicted a commitment to Florida State, and the combination of Norvell’s pitch and the Seminoles’ tradition proved decisive for LeJeune. His decision will not only shape his own future but also influence the defensive line depth at both programs as they look ahead to the next season.
