James Pace, a four-star edge prospect out of DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland, announced his commitment to Auburn University on Wednesday, choosing the Tigers over a slate of powerhouse programs that included Colorado, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
Why the Tigers Resonated
The decision came after Pace spent a weekend on campus from May 29-31, where he said he felt a genuine sense of love and priority from the coaching staff. He highlighted the personal connections he forged with Coleman Hutzler and Wayne Dorsey, the latter of whom hails from Pace’s hometown, as decisive factors in his choice.
Pace’s teammate, Knyair Cumb, verbally pledged to Auburn just two days earlier, underscoring the momentum the program is building within the 2027 recruiting class. With Pace’s commitment, Auburn now holds the 20th spot in its 2027 class and adds the second edge recruit to the roster, joining fellow four-star Maryland product Rion Jackson.
A Class on the Rise
The influx of top talent from the Mid-Atlantic region signals Auburn’s aggressive push to reshape its defensive line, a strategy that could pay dividends in the coming seasons. Analysts note that the class ranks among the most competitive in the nation, reflecting the program’s growing allure.
