Shamar Evans, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker from Ruston High School in Ruston, Louisiana, is already generating buzz in the 2028 recruiting class.
Ranked No. 9 nationally among linebackers and No. 5 in Louisiana by 247Sports, Evans has attracted scholarship offers from a slew of powerhouse programs.
A packed itinerary
During the 2026 season he will step onto Neyland Stadium on November 21 to watch the Tennessee-LSU matchup, a game that will serve as his first official visit to Tennessee.
The trip is part of a whirlwind schedule that also includes stops at LSU, Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, SMU and Alabama, giving the young prospect a chance to compare some of the nation’s top football environments.
Recruiting background
Evans’ first scholarship came from Ole Miss on October 30, 2025, and Tennessee followed suit on April 1, 2026. As of the article’s publication, the Volunteers have yet to secure a commitment in the 2028 class, though the 2027 cohort already boasts 19 pledges, including linebacker JP Peace and offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo.
Beyond the SEC, Evans has also received interest from Baylor, Jackson State, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Missouri, Georgia, Nebraska, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech, Virginia Tech, Bowling Green and UCLA, underscoring the widespread appeal of his talents.
