Four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr., a standout from Collierville, Tennessee, announced his commitment to the University of Oregon on Thursday, selecting the Ducks over a final slate that included Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss.
A Two-Way Star Chooses the Ducks
The announcement marks a significant recruiting win for Oregon, which has been aggressive in pursuit of top talent from the Southeast. Walden, ranked No. 56 overall and the fourth-best athlete in the 2027 cycle by 247Sports, also holds the No. 69 overall spot and sixth-best athlete designation in the USA TODAY High School Sports composite rankings.
During his junior season at Collierville High, Walden posted 42 receptions for 912 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also contributing 28 tackles, 17 pass breakups and five interceptions on defense. As a sophomore he recorded 15 catches for 307 yards and four scores, adding seven tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions.
Coaches praise his size, speed and versatility, noting that his ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball could translate into immediate playing time for the Ducks. Oregon’s defensive coordinator highlighted Walden’s ball-hawking instincts and his knack for creating separation as traits that fit the program’s scheme.
The commitment underscores a broader trend of elite prospects opting for the Pac-12’s resurgence under head coach Dan Lanning, who has emphasized a fast-paced, aggressive style. Analysts expect Walden’s addition to bolster the Ducks’ recruiting class and reinforce their competitiveness in the Pac-12 and beyond.
