After transferring from Flower Mound Marcus High School in Texas, Nussmeier attempted to join Denton Ryan High School in Texas, only to have his eligibility ruled out by a district executive committee that deadlocked 3-3 on the matter. The ruling forced him to seek another destination.
Choosing Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, the quarterback found a new home just minutes from New Orleans. The move not only placed him closer to family but also allowed him to play near his father’s position with the New Orleans Saints.
Doug Nussmeier, the Saints’ offensive coordinator, and older brother Garrett Nussmeier, a former LSU Tigers quarterback, have both been prominent figures in the family’s football narrative. Their presence added a layer of local connection that shaped Colton’s decision.
