Jones, who starred at Hough High School alongside five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, had been rated the sixth best prospect in his state and sixth nationally at his position.
His final list had included Auburn, Georgia and LSU, but the decisive factor was the relationship he built with South Carolina’s defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, a connection that dates back to eighth grade, and the immediate rapport he felt with head coach Shane Beamer.
After taking an official visit on June 19, Jones revealed his decision two days later, underscoring how personal relationships can outweigh traditional power-program allure.
