A community swing for local kids
On June 13, children across Evansville will have a chance to swing a brand‑new baseball bat without spending a dime. The giveaway will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bosse Field, the historic home of the Evansville Otters, and is open to anyone under 17 who arrives early.
The event is being coordinated by the nonprofit 4 Good Community in partnership with the Evansville Otters, a local baseball franchise that will help staff the distribution. Their joint effort aims to remove financial barriers that keep some families from accessing sports equipment.
Each bat carries an estimated retail value of about $300, meaning the total inventory exceeds $100,000. That sizable investment underscores the community’s commitment to leveling the playing field for youngsters who might otherwise be left on the sidelines.
Organizers are urging families to come early, as the bats will be handed out on a first‑come, first‑served basis. This ensures that excitement stays high throughout the two‑hour window and that every eligible child gets a chance to participate.
Beyond the immediate thrill, the giveaway hopes to spark ongoing physical activity and community engagement. By providing free equipment, the partners aim to foster a culture where play is accessible to every child, regardless of economic background.
