Free World Cup Soccer Celebration Unites Rockaway Families

A community‑driven event combined sport, food and fun, showcasing the power of local collaboration

On June 28, the Kiwanis of the Rockaways opened the gates of a community park for a free, family‑friendly World Cup Soccer Free Play & Watch Party, inviting children, parents and neighbors from the Rockaways, Broad Channel and surrounding areas to share in the excitement of the tournament.

With more than 241 people signing up and an estimated 150‑200 showing up on the day, the gathering blended sport, games and a sense of neighborhood camaraderie, turning a simple soccer field into a hub of activity.

NY Kosmos FC took charge of the soccer portion, running drills, games and skill‑building stations that let youngsters chase balls and practice moves under the guidance of experienced coaches. Adjacent to the pitch, Rockaway Beach Pickleball contributed pickleball, Target Soccer and beach‑ball stations, while Sol De Vida’s digital photobooth let families pose for creative snapshots and walk away with small prizes.

Community Collaboration

The event underscored how local organizations can join forces to create inclusive experiences, fostering unity and laying groundwork for future partnerships among businesses, non‑profits and civic groups.

The Kiwanis of the Rockaways convenes each third Thursday at Roger’s Pub, continuing the dialogue that began with this celebration and reinforcing the organization’s commitment to local service.
