The Freeport International Baseball Invitational is set to light up the summer schedule from July 20 to 25, bringing together a vibrant mix of local talent and overseas competitors. The event, now in its annual rhythm, promises high energy across multiple venues in the Alle‑Kiski Valley and greater Pittsburgh region.
A Global Lineup Emerges
This year’s edition will see a Japanese squad join the competition, while the traditionally strong Aussie Drop Bears from Australia will sit out due to financial constraints. Their absence opens space for fresh entries from Erie and Cleveland, expanding the tournament’s international footprint.
Games will be staged at a variety of sites, including Schwartz Field, Freeport Community Park, Armstrong and Highlands high schools, and Northmoreland Park. The opening night will feature an 8 p.m. matchup between the Japanese team and a Freeport side, kicking off a six‑day schedule that blends sport with community celebration.
Beyond the diamond, Freeport Borough will host a special festival on July 21, welcoming Japanese visitors and coordinating host families through the efforts of borough manager Tina Ferringer. The festivities will be underscored by live music performances at Schwartz Field, adding a lively backdrop to the evening games.
Traditional highlights such as the Sonny Westerman Old Timers Game, the John “Cossy” Costantino Annual 5K/10K race, and an all‑star contest capped with fireworks will return, reinforcing the event’s deep roots in local culture. Organizers emphasize that the tournament not only showcases athletic talent but also strengthens community bonds and international goodwill.
