Freshman Midfielder Marco Cantalapiedra Earns Atlantic 10 Rookie Honor
Fordham’s men’s soccer team celebrated its first victory of the season on Tuesday, a 2-0 win over Bucknell that featured a breakthrough performance by freshman midfielder Marco Cantalapiedra. The goal, scored in the 54th minute, opened the scoring and set the tone for a dominant second half.
Cantalapiedra, a native of Biscayne, Florida, was recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference as the league’s Rookie of the Week, a distinction that marks his first weekly honor in collegiate soccer. His composure on the ball and ability to find space in midfield have quickly made him a key figure in the Rams’ tactical setup.
The win not only lifted the team’s morale but also underscored the impact of fresh talent in shaping the Rams’ campaign. Head coach praised the youngster’s work ethic and tactical awareness, noting that the midfielder’s contribution could prove pivotal as the schedule progresses.
Looking ahead, Fordham will host Villanova University on September 1 at 4:00 p.m. ET. The upcoming matchup presents an early test for the Rams, who will aim to build on the momentum generated by their rookie’s standout performance.
