Freshman Nick Keith Launches Youth Basketball Camp to Bridge HBCU Culture and Community

The Winston‑Salem State newcomer partners with local groups to mentor middle‑school athletes in Greensboro

A Freshman's Vision: Mentoring Youth Through Basketball and HBCU Spirit

Nick Keith, an incoming freshman at Winston‑Salem State University, is channeling the support he received during his own journey into a summer camp that will bring together 25 young athletes from first through eighth grade.

The camp will take place on August 15, 2024, at Triad Basketball Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina, a venue chosen for its community‑focused facilities and central location.

For a $30 fee, each camper will receive instruction on basketball fundamentals, lessons on HBCU history and culture, and opportunities to connect with mentors who share Keith’s path.

Partnerships Power the Program

The initiative is presented in partnership with Da Drew League, a Greensboro‑based basketball organization founded by Brittany Drew, and supported by IM Sports & Entertainment, which handles program development and media relations.

Keith emphasizes that the camp is as much about building confidence on the court as it is about fostering a sense of belonging and pride in the HBCU tradition.

By limiting the roster to 25 participants, the event ensures personalized attention and a supportive environment that mirrors the mentorship Keith experienced growing up.
