Texas A&M has added a promising piece to its defensive backfield with the arrival of freshman safety Chance Collins, a player whose high school career was marked by rare versatility.
Out of Meyer Criss High School, Collins excelled at both receiver and defensive back, using his speed and instincts to make an impact on both sides of the ball.
Versatility on Display
Coached by Meyer Criss, Collins was lauded for his physicality, cerebral approach and ability to tackle in space, traits that translate well to the safety position at the collegiate level.
During his junior year he recorded six interceptions and eight pass breakups while also catching 16 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing a blend of defensive skill and receiving prowess.
His athletic resume includes a 10.76‑second 100‑meter dash and sub‑22.0 performance in the 200 meters earlier this spring, numbers that underscore his explosiveness on the field.
Committed to Texas A&M in June 2025, Collins chose the Aggies over Texas Tech, a decision highlighted by his desire to develop under the program’s defensive scheme.
Meyer Criss, his high school coach, described him as “versatile, physical, and cerebral,” emphasizing the player’s football IQ and adaptability.
Now at Texas A&M University, Collins is expected to contribute immediately on special teams and in nickel packages, with coaches praising his processing speed and instinctive play.
The Aggies’ defensive coordinator sees a future where Collins can grow into a staple of the secondary, leveraging his multi‑position background to bring a dynamic edge to the defense.
