Freshman sensation Shiloh Baird leads Oregon's early surge
Oregon’s women’s soccer team opened its 2026 schedule with two dominant 3‑0 wins, first over Portland State and then against Gonzaga, setting the tone for a season that could see the Ducks climb back into national contention.
Freshman forward Shiloh Baird was recognized as the Big Ten Freshion of the Week after she contributed a goal and an assist in the Portland State matchup, becoming the first Duck in nearly three decades to find the net in her first two collegiate appearances.
Defensive anchor Taylor Dever earns weekly honor
Taylor Dever, the team’s midfield stalwart, logged every minute of the two games, helping Oregon preserve clean sheets and limiting opponents to just four shots on goal across both contests.
His defensive efforts were rewarded with the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award, the second such honor for a Duck defender in program history after Lauren Kenny’s 2025 accolade.
Baird’s achievements mark a milestone, as she becomes only the third freshman in Oregon history to score in consecutive games, joining Chalise Baysa (1998) and Michele Potestio (1980).
Coach’s staff highlighted the contributions of senior playmaker Carly Cormack, who provided the decisive pass for Baird’s game‑winning goal against Portland State and assisted on the second goal versus Gonzaga.
The Ducks will next test their mettle on Thursday when they travel to face Santa Clara, with the match streaming live on ESPN+ at 7:30 p.m. Pacific time.
