A Promising Start for the Hoosiers
Indiana University’s freshmen basketball players made a strong impression at the FISU America Games, helping the Hoosiers capture the tournament title and generating early excitement for the 2026‑27 season.
Vaughn Karvala emerged as the team’s offensive catalyst, scoring 32 points in a single contest and finishing the tournament with a team‑high 65 points. He shot 11 of 19 from three‑point range, showcasing a lethal perimeter game that will stretch defenses in the coming months.
Prince‑Alexander Moody proved equally versatile, averaging 12.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He matched Karvala with 11 three‑pointers and was noted for his relentless motor, often diving for loose balls in the final minutes to spark the team.
Trevor Manhertz contributed 8.0 points per game while shooting 6‑for‑12 from beyond the arc. Coaches praised his instincts and shooting touch, projecting him as a reliable spark plug off the bench for the Hoosiers' depth chart.
Head coach Darian DeVries and assistant Clemens Sokolov highlighted the trio’s potential to provide scoring and playmaking depth, emphasizing that their performances in Peru, Arizona, Texas and Florida have set a positive tone for the program’s trajectory.
The Hoosiers’ victory in the FISU America Games not only underscores the talent within Indiana’s freshman class but also signals a promising outlook as the team prepares for the upcoming collegiate season.
