Heat Forces Schedule Changes
Frisco Independent School District announced that, starting Thursday, August 27, and continuing through Friday, August 28, the kickoff times for outdoor football contests at Kuykendall Stadium and Toyota Stadium will be pushed back to 7:30 p.m. as a direct response to extreme heat warnings sweeping North Texas.
Games scheduled at the Ford Center will retain their original 7 p.m. start, even as the region grapples with soaring temperatures that have prompted the National Weather Service to issue heat alerts across the area.
District officials said the adjustment is intended to reduce player exposure to the most intense heat of the day, and they noted that other school systems may adopt similar timing changes as forecasts predict triple‑digit highs later this week.
Heat Safety Advice
Coaches and athletic directors have emphasized that hydration, shade breaks and modified practice routines will be essential to keep athletes safe, and the district has reminded families to dress in lightweight clothing and to monitor for signs of heat‑related illness.
The National Weather Service continues to advise North Texans to limit strenuous activity during peak heat hours, to drink plenty of water, and to seek cooling centers when temperatures climb above 100 °F.
