From Backyard Pick‑ups to a Six‑Division League
What began as a handful of pickup games on a Langford rink during the COVID‑19 lockdown has evolved into a six‑division summer hockey league that now fields more than 250 skaters. The league was officially founded in 2022 by Zack Whittaker and Kenny Britton, who saw an opportunity to give players a structured environment to apply their off‑season training.
Games are more than just matches; they feature licensed officials, a curated soundtrack that plays throughout play, and dressing rooms equipped with assigned stalls, custom name bars, tape and nutritional products, giving participants a professional‑grade experience in a community setting.
Women’s Hockey Expands the Vision
Recognizing the growing interest in female participation, the league introduced a women’s division in 2023, overseen by Megan Bouveur. The program has grown from two initial teams to a college‑level division and four U18 squads, providing a clear pathway for girls to compete during the summer months.
Remembering Dayton Clarke
Each summer the league culminates in the Dayton Clarke Memorial Championship at Westhills Arena. The event honors Dayton Clarke, a player who skated in the league’s inaugural season and grew up playing minor hockey alongside Zack Whittaker. The championship day was created in tribute after Clarke’s passing in 2023, serving as a reminder of the community’s close‑knit spirit and the league’s reliance on local support.
