From Battlefield to Sideline: Felicia Teeter Breaks New Ground at John Carroll University

A 30‑year military career fuels a pioneering coaching path in college football.

From Battlefield to Sideline

Felicia Teeter, a 58‑year‑old former U.S. military veteran, has swapped combat boots for cleats, carving a historic path in college football.

After three decades of service — ten years on active duty and twenty years as a Department of Defense civilian — she retired and entered the coaching arena, eventually joining the New York Jets through the Soldiers to Sidelines program.

During her internship with the Jets she assisted running backs coach Nic McKissic‑Luke, absorbed lessons from offensive coordinator Frank Reich, and collaborated with head coach Aaron Glenn, all while immersing herself in the team’s playbook each night.

Teeter’s approach hinges on leadership and genuine passion, a philosophy she cultivated long before stepping onto an NFL practice field.

A Journey Across the Heartland

Her coaching journey began on the sidelines of middle and high schools in Lubbock, Texas, before she expanded to Kansas, where she launched a women’s flag football team at Bethel College.

Now at John Carroll University in Ohio, she serves as the running backs coach for the Division III program and spearheads a new flag football initiative, becoming the school’s first female coach in the process.

Beyond tactics, Teeter emphasizes character development, urging her players to own their actions and understand accountability as a cornerstone of success.
