The story of the Bavaria Wolfpack begins with a young non‑commissioned officer who saw potential where others saw only defeat. Sgt. 1st Class Lynwood Blackmon III was approached by retired Command Sgt Maj. Pat Lockett after the 2022‑2023 USAG Unit Level Basketball season, a meeting that would set the stage for a remarkable turnaround.
A New Identity Takes Shape
When the team first took the court in January 2023 in Baumholder, Germany, the Bavaria Hounds performed poorly, prompting Lockett to threaten discontinuation unless Blackmon agreed to coach. Blackmon’s return from school gave him the chance to rebuild the roster, and with the support of Commissioner Theodore Green, the squad earned acceptance into the Varsity Military Basketball League of Europe (VMBL‑E) and was renamed the Bavaria Wolfpack.
The newly christened Wolfpack featured a core of talented players, including Rasheed Reams, David Stewart, Rajun Blackston, Kenneth Walters Jr. and Shaquille Angel. Their debut in the Installation Management Command – Europe Basketball Community Tournament saw victories over Landshut and Ansbach, while a narrow loss to Ramstein highlighted both their intensity and the competitive spirit they inspired in opponents.
Beyond the scoreboard, Blackmon’s leadership demonstrated how a clear vision and steady guidance can transform a struggling unit into a force capable of contending on regional stages. The team’s journey, from the brink of dissolution to tournament success, underscores the power of dedicated mentorship within the military community.
