Lorez Simms grew up in Richmond’s Highland Park, a neighborhood where the streets were as unforgiving as the odds stacked against its youth. By the age of twelve he was on his own, navigating a world marked by violence and crime that would have derailed many.
A pivotal moment arrived when Lionel Bacon, a mentor at the Downtown YMCA, spotted Simms’ talent and invited him to the court. The simple act of being seen and welcomed transformed his trajectory, steering him away from the path of his surroundings.
After earning his GED, Simms pursued basketball at the professional level, competing in the American Basketball Association. He later channeled that experience into coaching, establishing Team Simms Elite Training — known as T‑Set — to give structure and purpose to young athletes.
What began as a modest training program quickly expanded, now reaching middle‑school, high‑school, college and even elementary‑school players. The growth reflects Simms’ belief in long‑term impact, offering mentorship that stretches across generations.
The ripple effect of his work is evident in his sons. Mike'l Simms became the first in the family to graduate college and launch a professional basketball career overseas in Brazil and Uruguay, while Lemone Simms shed childhood obesity through disciplined early‑morning workouts and steadfast faith.

Simms now measures success not by personal accolades but by the lives he lifts. He teaches that true greatness lies in service, echoing a belief that "God's code" prioritizes selflessness and generosity over selfish ambition.
