A Fundraiser on the Fairway
On May 31, the Frontier Redhawks Youth Football Association will stage its sixth annual golf tournament at the Northfield Golf Club, turning a day on the greens into a fundraiser for local youth athletes. The cost of $130 per golfer covers green fees, a golf cart and a barbecue meal, and all proceeds are earmarked for the youth football program.
Beyond the swing, participants can enjoy on‑course games, raffle draws and a communal barbecue after the final hole. For more information, contact Nicole Williams at FYFAhawks@gmail.com.
The tournament arrives amid a vibrant spring for regional amateur sports, where recent contests have highlighted a host of emerging talents. In the Greenfield Girls Softball League, Charlotte Facey and Grace Hickey delivered key hits for the Ponytail Pipiones while Savannah Thomas struck out ten batters.
Baseball action added further excitement: Brody Suhl earned the win on the mound for Maniatty’s and contributed two hits, while Owen Castine and Toby Campbell each collected three hits; Gruber & Tripp’s Silas Dodge added two hits in a 7‑3 victory over Baker Financial; Nino Rodriguez went 4‑for‑4 for Posada’s Tavern, and Ben Morgan and George Correa powered the lineup with dingers.
In the co‑ed league, Posada’s Tavern edged AGH Disposal 18‑16, with Nino Rodriguez again shining, while Hot L’s Tim Anderson went 6‑for‑6 in a 21‑3 win. Meanwhile, Liberty Tax Sharks’ Che Christi posted two doubles, a triple and five RBI to secure a 27‑10 triumph.
On the greens, Andy Sena and Rich Drozdal posted the lowest gross score of 35 at Northfield, and Jeff Seymour was the medalist with a 37 at the Country Club of Greenfield. Organizers say the event not only raises funds but also strengthens community ties, giving young athletes a chance to play, learn and grow.
