Fryeburg Academy’s baseball squad captured a dramatic 4‑3 victory over Greely in the Class B South final on June 16, turning the tables on a team that had eliminated them in last year’s regional championship.
The contest unfolded at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, where the Raiders built an early lead and held off a late rally to force a showdown with the North champion Cony in the state title game.
Brady Chappell anchored the pitching staff, working into the sixth inning before handing the ball to reliever Colin Chester, who sealed the win with the final outs. Early in the game, Fryeburg struck first, scoring twice in the opening two innings — first when Connor Keaton crossed the plate on an error and later when Noah Day delivered a two‑run double.
Greely answered with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames, showcasing resilience that earned high praise from their coach, Derek Soule, who highlighted his team’s effort despite the loss.
The win not only avenges a previous defeat but also underscores Fryeburg’s depth and composure under pressure as they prepare for the upcoming state championship.
