True freshman linebacker Izayia Williams made his debut in pads after missing his senior season due to a torn ACL, and his performance drew immediate praise from Norvell, who highlighted the player’s speed, explosiveness and fearless tackling.
Freshman wide receiver Jasen Lopez also stood out, delivering three big plays that underscored his potential to contribute early in the season.
The offensive line impressed with strong communication and combination blocking, suggesting a unit that could move efficiently at the line of scrimmage.
On defense, the line showed the ability to hold the point of attack without needing to move on every snap, a testament to their technique despite being undersized relative to some peers.
Norvell pointed to the speed of the second level, including linebackers and safeties, as a promising development that could translate into more disruptive plays.
The receiver corps benefited from matchups that were unavailable in the spring, thanks in part to limited participation by defensive backs Quindarrius Jones and Ja’Bril Rawls, allowing players like Duce Robinson to shine.
Norvell singled out Ja’Bril Rawls and senior wideout Duce Robinson as among the best in college football, while the tight end group emerged as an area of excitement due to their speed and intensity.
