Florida State University head football coach Mike Norvell recently contributed ten thousand dollars to a Tallahassee‑based political action committee called the Local Economic Solutions Committee.
Although the committee has raised more than four hundred thousand dollars, its objectives and the candidates it supports remain opaque, and it has previously funneled money to other local political groups.
In its latest filing, the committee disclosed a twenty‑thousand‑dollar contribution to Tallahassee United PC, an organization that backs City Commissioner Dianne Williams‑Cox and Talethia Edwards, and it has spent roughly two hundred twenty thousand dollars on various activities.
A Web of Contributions
The chair of Tallahassee United, Remera Jones‑Haynes, is married to Chauncy Haynes, an aide to County Commissioner Carolyn Cummings, linking the committee to local governmental circles.
The group also paid thirteen thousand dollars to the Tyson Group, a consulting firm founded by GOP strategist Ryan Tyson, and it has allocated one hundred seventy‑five thousand dollars to the business advocacy organization Associated Industries of Florida.
A roster of donors includes several current and former members of the Florida State University Board of Trustees — Peter Collins, Peter Jones and Jim Henderson — as well as former athletic director David Coburn, who gave five thousand dollars.
Additional contributors such as Conservative Florida, Warner Peacock and Brett Lindquist have a history of supporting local incumbents, including Mayor John Dailey, Commissioner Curtis Richardson and Dianne Williams‑Cox.
Mike Norvell’s wife, Maria Norvell, previously donated two thousand dollars to Mayor John Dailey’s 2022 reelection campaign, adding a personal dimension to the financial ties between the coach’s family and local politics.
