A Fresh Start for the Seminoles
Florida State University is putting the finishing touches on Doak Campbell Stadium as it prepares for its season opener against New Mexico State on August 29. The school is re-sodding the playing surface using the industry-standard S.O.P. method, a process that involves laying approximately two inches of new grass before the first game of the year.
This marks the second straight season the Seminoles have refreshed the field before the opening contest, a timeline that has stretched to three weeks this year compared with the 11-day window used in 2025. Maintenance crews began work last week, conducting thorough assessments to ensure the new turf meets the rigorous standards set by the university’s facilities department.
The freshly installed sod, which was first put in place ahead of the 2025 victory over Alabama, is expected to be ready for play immediately, giving the team a pristine surface as they step onto the field for the first time. Coaches and players alike have expressed confidence that the upgraded surface will provide the consistency and durability needed for a strong start to the campaign.
