Title Defense Underway
The Seminoles open the 2026 regular season on August 13 with a title‑defending match against Stetson, a program that has never beaten Florida State. The game marks the first step in a road trip that will also take the team to Miami for a showdown with FIU on August 16.
Coached by Brian Pensky, who has guided the program to two national championships in his first four seasons, the squad enters the campaign ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll and atop Top Drawer Soccer’s national rankings. Pensky’s .854 win percentage and 70 victories since taking over in 2022 underscore the program’s sustained excellence.
Fresh Talent Arrives
The incoming class of sixteen newcomers is the highest‑rated recruiting group in the country, featuring five freshmen and eleven transfers. Highlights include forward Nyah Rose, who arrives with a reputation for clutch finishing, and midfielder Ashley Henderson, a defensive stalwart expected to shore up the back line.
Four of the eleven starters from the 2025 championship side return, among them junior forward Wrianna Hudson and junior defender Janet Okeke, both of whom earned All‑ACC honors last year. Sophomore midfielder Nyanya Touray also received conference recognition, while the midfield will be bolstered by transfer Sam Erbach, a first‑team preseason selection by Top Drawer Soccer.
Florida State’s dominance over Stetson stretches to a perfect 9‑0 record, highlighted by a 7‑0 victory in 2025 where six different players found the net and six more assisted. The Seminoles have not allowed a goal to the Hatters in any of their meetings, a streak that began in 2009.
Beyond the Stetson opener, the team will test its mettle against a strong non‑conference schedule, including a later fixture against Alabama that will be broadcast nationally. The coaching staff emphasizes maintaining the program’s 33‑game unbeaten streak in regular‑season non‑conference play, a benchmark that has become a point of pride for the squad.
