Season Opener Preview
The Florida State University women's soccer team is set to kick off its 2026 campaign with a much‑anticipated opener against Stetson, a match that will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Ranked at the pinnacle of preseason assessments, the Seminoles sit No. 1 in the Top Drawer Soccer national rankings and No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, underscoring the expectations surrounding the program.
A Historic Unbeaten Streak
This season also marks the continuation of a remarkable 33‑game unbeaten stretch in non‑conference play, a run that builds on a 4‑0‑1 record from the previous year and a 10‑game unbeaten streak that concluded the 2025 campaign.
Head coach Brian Pensky, who arrived in Tallahassee in 2022, has already guided the team to two NCAA championships (2023 and 2025) and a College Cup appearance in 2022, compiling a .854 win percentage and 70 victories in just three seasons.
Roster and Recruiting Highlights
The roster features four returning starters and a highly touted incoming class of 16 newcomers, five of whom are freshmen, and 11 transfers, a group that Top Drawer Soccer has positioned as the nation’s top recruiting class.
Preseason honors have been bestowed upon junior forward Wrianna Hudson, junior defender Janet Okeke and sophomore midfielder Nyanya Touray, each earning spots on the All‑ACC first team, while Sam Erbach was also named to the Preseason Top 100.
Legacy and Pageantry
Adding to the pageantry, the program will retire the jersey of former star Sebastian Janikowski during the Stetson matchup, a tribute that ties past excellence to present ambition.
Stetson enters the contest with a modest 5‑14 record from 2025 and a 2‑3 mark in the ASUN Conference, making the Seminoles heavy favorites but also providing a platform to showcase depth and talent.
The game will be played in Tallahassee, where FSU boasts an 9‑0‑0 record against Stetson, including eight shutouts and a 7‑0 home victory earlier in the year.
