A Fresh Look Ahead of the Season
Florida State University baseball announced its 2027 fall ball roster on Tuesday, revealing a blend of eight freshmen, eight college transfers and five junior college players who will don the garnet and gold.
Among the newcomers are high school standouts Kaden Waechter and Landon Thome, both of whom signed professional contracts after being drafted in July, signaling a direct pathway from high school to the collegiate program.
Outfielder AJ Nessler, a product of Jesuit High School in Tampa and former Pitt standout, earned his spot through a California court ruling that granted extra eligibility to the 2022 graduating class, allowing him to extend his collegiate career.
Nessler’s 2026 season at Jesuit saw him post a .304 batting average with a .417 on‑base rate and a .468 slugging percentage, numbers that helped him catch the eye of the coaching staff.
The roster also retains several returning players who will be joined by the new talent as the team prepares for a scrimmage against Auburn in Pensacola in six weeks, a contest that will serve as a litmus test for the upcoming campaign.
Coach Link Jarrett, who has overseen the program’s recent growth, highlighted the depth of the squad, noting that the mix of youth and experience creates a competitive environment heading into the fall.
The announcement coincides with the start of the academic year and the kickoff of FSU football, underscoring the vibrant sports atmosphere across Tallahassee and beyond.
Looking Ahead
With the new roster in place, the Seminoles are poised to blend fresh arms and bats with seasoned veterans, aiming to make a strong impression at the upcoming scrimmage and beyond. The blend of local talent, transfers from across the country and JUCO prospects adds a dynamic layer to the team's strategy.
The upcoming matchup in Pensacola will not only showcase the players' readiness but also serve as a final gauge before the regular season begins, giving fans a first glimpse of what to expect from this versatile group.
