Gabby White, a Chapel Hill native who helped the University of Virginia reach the Sweet 16 last season, is preparing to represent Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team on an exhibition tour of China scheduled for August 4‑15.
Training Camp in Chicago
Before heading overseas, White will attend a training camp in Chicago from July 29 to August 3, where she will work with national team coaches and teammates in a bid to fine‑tune her game for the upcoming series.
The camp marks a continuation of her involvement with Nigeria, a relationship that began with exhibition matches against WNBA franchises earlier this May, experiences that have already sharpened her competitive edge.
Aiming for the 2026 World Cup
Nigeria’s basketball federation is using the China tour as a stepping stone toward the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will be staged in Berlin, Germany. The tournament will bring together the continent’s top teams in a bid to qualify for the next Olympic cycle.
White’s previous appearances for Nigeria, combined with her collegiate success at Virginia, position her as a valuable asset for a squad looking to make a deeper run in the global event.
A Chapel Hill native, White shot 44.3% from the floor last season, averaging 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, numbers that reflect her steady development since transferring from Virginia after her rookie year.
